Rhinoplasty Information

We offer rhinoplasty procedures to help patients transform the appearance of their nose.  A nose that is too large, too small, crooked, or inappropriately angled due to nature, birth defect, or injury can make a face appear unbalanced.  Using advanced rhinoplasty techniques, we can reshape the nasal bridge, tip, nostrils, or forehead and lip angles in order to achieve better harmony between facial features.  Septoplasty can also be performed to treat minor breathing problems that result from a deviated nasal septum. Rhinoplasty patients from Greenwich, New Canaan, White Plains, and across New York and Connecticut seek us for our experience and skill.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty is a popular procedure, often requested by patients.  A typical rhinoplasty procedure takes about two hours and is performed while the patient is under either local anesthesia with a sedative or general anesthesia.  During surgery, we separate the skin of the nose from the underlying bone and cartilage through either an open or a closed approach.  We then sculpt the nose, depending on the patient's individual needs and desires, and close the incisions. Narrowing the width of the nose may be necessary to enhance the overall cosmetic result.

After Rhinoplasty

After surgery, the nose is protected by a hard, external plastic splint.  The nostrils may also be packed with gauze or with soft, internal silicone splints, particularly if extensive work on the septum is required.  The patient may experience some pain and a headache, which can usually be managed with pain medication and decongestants.  There may also be some bruising and swelling around the eyes that will gradually subside.  Most rhinoplasty patients can return to non-strenuous activities in two to three weeks.

Rhinoplasty can help patients improve the proportions of their nose and achieve a more balanced and attractive facial appearance.  As with other cosmetic surgery procedures, such as facelift and eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty is considered successful when the patient’s goals have been met in a safe and problem-free manner.
